So today I was thinking about the ground so I took both ends of the cable apart. On the machine end the allen screw was a little loose, took it apart, cleaned and tightened it. On the clamp end everything looked good but I went ahead and took it apart, cleaned and sanded all contact points. Tested with OHM meter, perfect. (See photo)
I got the consumables that AirGas recommended. (See photo)

    Now the big test -
    1. To confirm that I could get a spark I tried the old consumables, the ones that came with the machine, I got spark and could cut but it would not go through 3/16".
    2. I tried the new consumables, the short ones that I bought, no spark.
    3. The consumables I bought from AirGas, I got spark and could cut, it cut through 3/16", not pretty but I need to practice, it did cut through 1/8" easy.

    Is this weird or what?

    Is my torch a PT-31XL?

I found this on Ebay and the numbers match what I bought at Airgas - http://www.ebay.com/itm/PT31XT-PT31X...QAAMXQgb1RJsrB
