Severance Cutting... Hypertherm VS Longevity

Morning everyone!!

So, recently here, I've done severance tests with both my Hypertherm Powermax 45, and the Longevity Forcecut 42i that I have.

ForceCut:

Powermax:

Both machines are rated by their manufacturers to cut 1"...

And they both do it. The Forcecut struggles to do it, where as the Hypertherm will do 1", and then 1 1/4" easily. As you can see in the video, it WILL do 1.5", although its worse looking than the Longevity at 1".

Long story short, they're both great at cutting 3/4" and below.

And if you cut a lot of 1" to 1.5"... Then... Don't buy a 40 amp plasma cutter :envy

Yes, they both did it, but they were both slow as hell... Both left a lot of slag... And both left a "less than ideal" cut. But, if anyone's ever wondered, the Hypertherm will score an extra 1/2" on the Forcecut, but the Forcecut is still a hell of a lot of machine for $800 (If you tell Simon you watch my videos :2thumbs ). Anyway, enjoy the videos, and have a nice week everyone!!

For such a small forum, theres a lot of activity here, and lot of friendly members. I like this place :1thumbup

Nice comparison! Yeah, severance cuts aren't meant to look pretty huh! I don't think I'll ever be in the position to do that so it's pretty interesting to see what happens when you push the limit of the machines.

Lanse,

I have another question, In your longevity test video are you running the longevity 42i on 110v or 220v? I remember there was some confusion about that on another forum...
